Software Development
Engineering practice, tooling, open source and databases — how good software gets designed, reviewed and shipped.

Every entity, every block update, every redstone pulse — one thread, twenty times a second, 50 milliseconds a pass. Folia's answer is to stop sharing the kitchen. Here is the tick budget and the ownership rules, read from the PaperMC source.
Replace Google Drive, Google Photos, 1Password, Plex, and your document scanner with a self-hosted stack that runs on your hardware. Complete Docker Compose setup with Traefik, Nextcloud, Vaultwarden, Immich, Jellyfin, and Paperless-ngx.
A local LLM is three layers: weights on disk, a runtime that loads them, an interface that talks to it. Once you see the stack that way, the hardware question answers itself and the tuning stops being guesswork.

Python 3.15 release candidate: explicit lazy imports, the new frozendict and sentinel types, the Tachyon profiler, and real JIT benchmark numbers.
A technical deep dive into the features shaping the next Java feature release, due March 2027 — including the twelve-year backstory behind its headline feature. JDK 28 is
Escoffier's brigade de cuisine solved the same problem PHP's class visibility solves: who gets to touch what, and who answers to whom. Part 2 of the kitchen series, and the one where we build something real.
Linus built Git in 10 days. GitHub became where open source lives. Then Microsoft paid $7.5B, killed Atom, trained Copilot on your code, corrupted main branches with a merge queue bug, and folded the whole thing into CoreAI. Here's the full story.
Zed 1.0 Released — The man who built Electron at GitHub created Zed to fix the damage. Here's the full technical story of why Electron is broken and what Rust + GPU rendering actually changes.
On April 13, 2026, law enforcement from 21 countries seized 53 domains, arrested 4 people, and sent 75,000 warning emails to identified users of DDoS-for-hire platforms. They found 3 million criminal user accounts on seized servers. Operation PowerOFF has been running since 2018.
GitHub Copilot charges $19/month and sends your entire codebase to Microsoft's servers. You can build something better — one that knows your whole project, costs $0/month after hardware, and never phones home.
There is a fifteen-year fork tree underneath every Minecraft server, and most admins copy a jar without knowing what's in it. Here's the whole chain, with the code — including the config key most DAB guides get wrong.
Anthropic's $1.5M donation seeds a $10M Responsible AI Initiative at the Apache Software Foundation. That's more than half of ASF's entire annual budget in one shot — which tells you everything about how badly the open source infrastructure powering AI has been underfunded.
A retired Austrian developer built an open-source AI agent for fun in November 2025. Within 90 days, Jensen Huang called it the most successful open-source project in human history.
ChatGPT went down 28,000-report strong in February 2026. Claude had back-to-back outages within 24 hours in March. GitHub logged 37 incidents in a single month and is running at 90.21% uptime — one nine, not three. AI agents aren't just using infrastructure.
Python 3.15 ships a built-in frozendict — hashable, O(1) lookups, order-preserving, thread-safe by design. Here's the full technical picture: the 14-year history, how hashing works, what it unlocks for lru_cache and free-threaded Python, and every sharp edge you need to know before you use it.
